making a easy pin pointer with surf pi

All though I have been messing with MD for about 9 month to a year I have only ran across this forum less than 2 months ago and have learned so much from reading your forums, but to make a long storie short I happen to run in to something while cleaning my man room (work room) I found one of my sons big bass booster speaker that was junk , well I decided that I wanted the magnets from it just because they was so big, ( so much for making a long storie short. Right), well while taking it apart a found the voice coil, so just from dealing with MD I decided to check the inductance of the coil witch was very high. so I started to unwind the coil to bring it down to 300uH witch meant I had to unwind 1 lair from the inside and 1 and 2/3 lairs from the outside. I checked it with my LCR meter and it showed 319uH so I hooked it up to my surf PI and it worked great for the diameter of the coil I was getting 4 to 6 inches on hard metal and not much less for gold. I have a full hip replacement on my right hip and it would pick it up perfectly. I played around with this thing using just jumpers no coax or shield and was impressed with the results. I don't know how to send pics on here yet or I would have send pics. I can send the dimensions of the coil if any body is interested.

Oh I forgot to add is I think this would make a good cheap pin pointer. I have another surf pi kit that I think I will rig up for this reason. I don't have a pin pointer at this time and this seams to work great maybe even better than pin pointers I have used. This one seams to be more directional (smaller pin point area when pointing) than others that I have used.;

One more thing that I must add as I built a surf pi with a fast coil to where I am picking up metal at 14 to 15 inches and a gold ring about 12 to 14 inches. From what I read this is pretty good. I am not sure why because on a drunker stopper i hooked up the battery pack up backwards wards and it only blew out diode d6 and the hole thing went up in smoke. I replaced the diode and it worked fine maybe better than fine. (with the short, did I create something new?)
