  • Excalibur... Anyone got one?

I was going to buy the IP68/69 potentiometers but then I was thinking I saw that the Excalibur's don't use IP rated pots but they have that shaft that passes through the housing with a series of o-rings on them.

I'm wondering if anyone has one around that can take some detailed photos of these shafts and the casing that they slide through. I've found photos on the net but they just don't have enough res to answer my question about the housing.

I have seen good photos of the shafts but I'm curious as with the housing if they have a notched it a little for the o-rings to mate with when the shaft is pushed inside or if it's just a smooth wall hole and they are going to rely on the knob and the pot fixed to the board to hold the shaft in or keep it from sliding down?

Anyone know or have one they can take picture or 5 for me?

Look up APM Hexseal. A cheap way to make pots & switches waterproof.

I think I saw that you mentioned that once before awhile ago but didnt pay attention to it... I tend to do that from time to time...

Looked up the Hexseal to see what type of IP Rating they have and it actually looks pretty good.. They claim IP68 to 1500 PSI external and 15 PSI internal.

Seems way easier then inventing another wheel! Thanks Carl

They are commonly used by White's, Tesoro, & others on units rated to 200 feet. Word of caution... if you intend to use this in saltwater try to find pots either with stainless or plastic shafts. Aluminum & brass will corrode and cause the seal to leak. You might avoid this if you apply some thin grease.
