Harbor freight tools part number 92375 5 in one stud sensor (bought for 9.99) does a passable job in the metal mode, for a pin pointer. It has about a 1/2 inch range. Held together with some kind of 5 sided security screws, so haven't opened it yet, but as it is, it works quite will, and is a lot cheaper than any alternative. When I get back, I'm gonna crack it open and see about turning it into a real pinpointer, with a short tube...much like the GDP-902 that doesn't seem to be cheap or available. Just thought I'd share this.

I have done several modifications to the 97245 unit and they are detailed in the MODIFICATIONS Forum under the title: Harbor Freight Centech Model 97245 Pinpointer Modifications. It is much more stable after modification.
