  • Minelab Sov Xs2a fault

    Hi Guys

I could really do with some help in trying to identify a couple of problems I have on a Sov xs

I am not sure if the two problems are linked, but they do result in the same symptoms

If I use NEW duracells the detectors goes mega sensitive, it faultsays

if the duracells are a little used, its fine.

Now with used duracells or other batters, with good power, the detector with be very stable for a couple of hours and then go into this over sensitive sate (like using new duracells)

if I change battires etc it does not help.

the only thing that curses the problem is if I turn the detector off for a while and leave it, say 15mins to half an hour.
    then its back to normal.

I have basic electical knowlage, I can use a meter to read homs etc, I am compident in taking apart the detector, I just need pointers at what I should be metering etc

Its not a coil issue, as I have the stock 10inc coil, pluss a brand new 15 whot coil, and the detector does the same thing on both.

Please over look any spelling mistakes, I am not a dumb ***, I was simply born dyslexic!!!!

with some electronic kit they used to use a dummy cell ( a life size cell with a wire thru joining the terminals ) when using good duracells.

If you were using NimH or NiCAD you use all batteries ( No Dummy Cell )

    This may work for you.

If you have a dead cell, repeatedly short it and totally kill it. Fold up a long strip of foil and fold it around the dead cell so the top terminal is connected to the bottom terminal

Carefully slip this dummy cell in with your new duracells.

    May work

      Thanks for the reply golfnut.
But I doubt that it's a battery issue.
The duraclls I talk of are A A type dry cells.
