  • Sandbanks again

May I say again that the Sandbanks PI Detector is worthwhile , and a novice can build it without any problem . Carl has put the schematic back on his web-site as I saw recently . The PC Board is easy to make and the trouble with the transformer can be circumvented by diconnecting D1 and connecting the 78L12 with a second battery ( + on IC8 and - on the OV ) . If you do not forget the two capacitors as described in fig 1 ( under Improving audio quality ) you will end up with a realy nice detector . Kees

Serafin The Sandbanks will go about 30cm deep for an American quarter size coin . On pure iron it will go a lot deeper . Kees

Philippe . A Quarter is about the size of a 2 Euro coin . Remember though that a PI Detector works best on Ferro-metal . The coin I am talking about has a lot of nickle in it . You should never expect a PI Detector to work the same as a ,,regular,, detector .Both detectors have their own use . A metal box will be detected at great depth , while a coin may be skipped over .
