Hello Chris, Yes I found the same, different boards had DR changes? All very odd, I have though no depth to speak of (unlike yours). Keep posting and I will keep reading.

instead of soldering the damping resistor to the pcb i took the resistor off the board and connected two wires to the pcb and soldered the resistor to the other ends of the wires so it makes it easy to change resistor if using another coil.

i dont really understand the problem, if you use ham/cb radio mic plugs and sockets for your coils you wont have any issues.
there is more than enough room inside those plugs for the DR, hell for vlf i have got two poly caps in there, so one resistor should be easy, then just put a pass though to the socket, and put the DR that matches the coil in the plug.
then every plug can have the DR that matches the coil in use.

The problem for me is the size of the coax I think, 6mm dia. It has to be pushed right inside the plug because the plug is only about 2cm long. On some of my other detectors the plug is about 2 inches long, there is plenty of room in that type.

But as well as the coax I also have two links jammed in there. So not really too much space. Although maybe the shaky old hands have a lot to do with it; in my twenties (40 odd years ago), I could solder a transit onto a flys leg. But alas old age comes to us all.
