  • Problems with Fisher CZ-6

Hi, I bought a CZ-6 fisher second-hand and would like to solve some problems.

The main problem is that it does not discriminate, only beeps when the POT DISC is in position 0, in other positions not produce any sound.
Also the meter needle does not provide indication of the type of metal.

    any help will be welcome

    Thank You

    Hi Waka,

the more important thing is the depth and how you can deal with the Fisher's erratic noise - not if disc works or not!
Discrimination is convinience but may not really lead to success !

However, usually you better toss such old stuff and replace it at least with Fisher 1266, cos modern detectors are double deep -
but if you like and honour this detector, don't destroy it with "experiments".

What you can do is: (let) replacing all the electrolyte-condensers (=capacitors) because often in old or overheated electronic-devices
this is the source No.1 of failures (run out or aired away electrolyte) ! ! !
Someone even can restore old computers if he (or she?? ) replaces the elcos of the transformer-unit with new ones.

Also control the coil cable connections and battery-contacts. If they are rusted, the unit may get just half of the needed power.

Finally you can mark the trim-potis (= variable resistors) and turn them while using test-objects infront of the coil
and see if something changes. Cos perhaps someone has adjusted them to "all metal" before.

    Hope this helps.
If you need e-tronic professional-info, check out my modifications thread of the 1266-x here on this forum.

As long as you don't destroy or totally overheat the electronical parts, you can modify and try alot stuff - no prob.

Anyway - if you wanna go for the real treasures ! ! - please use a serious and new detector.
If you search at high mineralized soil - non motion or PI will be a must.
