am i way behind times?i just read about the new gpz 7000 from minelab,it's got a technology called "zero voltage transmission". anybody know how they get a signal from their coil? they say that it's 30 to 40 percent deeper than their gpx 5000. well it's something to think about. ken

We have a saying "the writing on the fence said..."
If you seriously wish to know more just follow their patents, and be amazed that it all boils down to constant current coil drive.
By following comments on various fora, 40% is a slight exaggeration. Pricing is also quite steep.

Davor is right, ZVT is a constant-current method, or basically a current square wave. The 40% is an "up to" spec, and it probably can do that for certain targets in certain conditions, your mileage may vary.

        > "zero voltage transmission"

        Out of the batteries? Great!

However radiation always is electromagnetical-current transmission or: -lost.

And as long as the Minelab doesn't uses alot more coil-power it hardly will reach deeper targets.
Some way could be to transmit EM-pulses with a special pattern so the feedback signal is clearly
distinctable from erratic noise or mineralization-distortions.
