TDI SL ground balance

I've read and understand it can be very difficult to get a good ground balance on my TDI SL at some locations, but my question is this.
Years ago Tesoro had the same problem with some of their units. They replaced the GB pot with a 3 3/4 turn which allowed more precise adjustments and all was good.

Why did the designers not install a 3 turn pot for the ground balance instead of the 3/4 turn one installed.

TDI Pro has a second potentiometer for GB fine tuning.

3-turn pots are single-source and run about $20 a piece.

Tesoro used the 3 3/4 turn on the Vaquero and Tejon GB control.
