  • VLF metal detector buying advice

I'm looking to buy a vlf metal detector from a well known manufacturer ,having a budget of about 850-900 us dollars. I will be using it mainly for relic hunting, and I would it to have a display with numeric target indication, manual and automatic ground balance, tone discrimination, and not to be heavy. I would like it to have decent discrimination, decent depth capabilities, like 10-12 inches depth in soil on coin size targets, I know some metal detectors tend to loose depth in soil compared to air test, around 30 % or even more, so I would like to avoid metal detectors that air test very good but have poor soil results.
Could some of the more experienced Geotech members give me some suggestions? (I now the Deus XP is regarded as one of the best vlf detectors for the moment, but sadly I cannot afford it.)

    Thank you.

All Metal Detectors Lose some Sensitivity when detecting in Earth.
How Much, Will Depend on the Mineral Content of the earth.

      1. I have V3i but it is to complicated to set up for proper searching( also I am not sure in advance given searching modes) - and give uncertain, confusing readings ...because of these reasons do not know if is good tuned and thought that

because of this reason I'll miss good findings I simply stop my searching .......probably you can understand this situation ...

2.Any advice about good choice of metal detector with simple set up something like turn on and search mode for gold/silver/ ... with auto balancing

3.What do you think about TDI,Nocta,Gerret ,Fishers,ATM, Pulse Star II Pro,Tehnetiks T2.Minelab's E-Track and CTX 3030.....(add if you have better suggestions)
for searching coins, rings not nuggets/natural gold (is it this reason very important in proper choice of metal detector nuggets vs coins searching )
from mentioned which one is best for searching in hills/mountains - mostly would be searched peaty and clay soils

4.I prefer one with display because I think would be more confident/would be sure about riding is it this advantage or disadvantage , which one is better audio or visual reading with

You should certainly be considering the Teknetics T2-LTD, or T2-LTD with the new DST software/ Fast process. Similary, the Fisher F75-LTD, or F75-LTD with DST etc. may suit, though it's more expensive, and for a relic-hunter offers little extra advantage.
They are not quite as deep as you may be wanting, but many users fit slightly larger after-market coils, with a modest depth gain. Examples such as the Detech Ultimate 13" seem popular.

Perhaps you should start over with your V3i. That's a good detector for various terrains, and frankly, you'll hardly need more than one setting for everything you actually need. If your detector provides erratic feedback, perhaps it is somehow broken. But otherwise it should work very good.

that is main problem what do you think about T2-LTD and F 75 -LTD is it simple for using
which one VLF you use ...or if you use couple please share brief experience
              thank you in advance

What type of ground are you thinking of detecting

Beach wet sand (requires a different type of detector)

                iron infested ground

                and many more

Most pasture and arable in England has a lot of iron so target separation and recovery speed are more important than depth

This is where the Dues scores so well but there are others

Depth wise all mid range detectors are adequate

With these requests everyone is going to recommend there own machine because nobody wants to think theirs is not the best.

Hills and mountains tend to have less iron scattered about so unless highly mineralized most detector should work well

Both the T2 and F 75 have almost identical performance and work well. They have to ground balanced properly otherwise you loose about half your depth. So not a switch on and go detector. Not difficult and is the same procedure every time so will became second nature. Never had a play with the others you mention so can't comment. Have had a play with a Golden Mask 1+ and was fairly impressed. Discrimination was spot on and the performance was very good for a 7" coil.

Been on a few rallies and people have been using everything from 1980 Tesoro to the likes of the Deus and finds rates have been fairly similar.

The new kid on the block "Racer" has been getting good reviews. A friend of mine has just been test a Race and owns a T2 and found no difference in performance in the field.

So "Racer" vs "T2" is a no brainer as one is almost half the price

thank you on your answer price is almost same with T2 and F 75
ask your friend about his experience and best impressions or if you have your favorite model ...

he likes the T2 the best just posted on Facebook last week but said the race was within 99%

here in the UK T2 and F 75 are around £750 to £988 depending on package/coil

Where as the Race is £450 to £580 depending on package/coil

As I said not my detector but this is what other have written about it

                          link

Monte has owned nearly every detector ever made LOL

Thank you all for the answers, to be honest I was thinking about a teknetics T2 SE myself; I will be detecting mainly in the woods, in the hills, maybe mountains, usually in areas with targets not very close to one another. I have seen a video demonstration of the T2 here, and it looks like it doesn't discriminate beyond certain depth, on coin size targets, although sensibility looks good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF22D5yVzPI

Save your money, get the Makro Racer and buy also the 40cm coil!
If you hunt for relics this will be a fantastic opportunity for you.
You even can hunt at night and with vibration mode.
The detector is very lightweight, too and even shows the finds depth
while in pinpointing-mode. And it's depth is amazing.
