  • Metal Detecting Shoe

Not a new idea, but someone has managed to patent it.
This is probably a result of the American "First to Patent" system, rather than "First to Invent".

I remember seeing those things demonstrated on TV nearly 10 years ago. I always thought they could be improved upon, though I haven't seen anything. If you disguised them inside snorkelling flippers you might have more room for a better coil.

      thx for refreshing this topic.

we have here already the following thread from me
      http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showt...highlight=shoe
(May 2010) and this here from 2014 was my lastest idea:
      http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showt...715#post197715

Some professional made shoe detector really would be a great thing because it's so ultra practical !!!
Someone simply can "stumble" over the fantastiest finds just by walking and not even thinking about finding anything.

This means the shoe-detector has to be simple to use and with discrimination so there is a chance
to have some personal check if the find might be larger or slower, consisting of more worthless or pretty valuable metal.

When I rethink about the whole thing, only one coil at one shoe will work.
The best method to construct it will be with shoes that contain no metal at all,
and attaching a pre-made stabil coil 3-5cm over one of the soles.

This coil has to be small enough at its more body-centered side so it will not disturb walking at all,
and it either has to be lightweight enough so someone doesn't recognices it while walking OR
the second shoe need some counter-weight.

And now of course the wireless-technology would be great:

The shoe-coil sends out some wireless signals and the little receiver at the skirt-pocket gives
either low or higher sounds so someone knows if its iron, steel or metal or silver, gold alu etc. stuff.

The shoe-coil uses a litte lipo-accu, perhaps just 200 grams lightweight.

This treasure-hunting shoes (not boots) will be the hit if it comes to absolutly secrecy!

Someone can walk over the "forbidden" or whatever site and in his little earphone-knobs -
everyone is thinking he's listening to music, he will receive the metal signals from below!

Technologically seen its no big problem, its like some modified XP-Deus coil,
only shoe-adjusted. This means the coil has to be a single-coil (no DD) and
its connected with a accu or battery and a little transmitter.

Seen from the depth we will get a ca. 20-25cm coil, depending on how good it is
camouflaged or integrated with the shoe.

This means that the depth of course will not be the greatest but it will be already
good enough to find coins 20cm deep and larger stuff down to 50cm - which is
      alot better than nothing!

The best thing would it be if the detection-circuit really has a very good Metal-ID detection
so someone directly can see that it is a just 5cm deep silver-coin or golden jewelry where his
      foot is over.

Pinpointing also will be easy because of the small and narrow coil, the foot will describe
some circle movements and the person knows exactly where to dig!

btw. what we are discussing here is far away from those cheap metal-detector sandals!
It will be some professional wireless shoe-detector with very stable coil, high selective
and sensivite Metal-ID output circuit which finds stuff just by walking over it!

There will be no easier way! Or funnier said: Easy walking directly over all kind of treasures!

We need to create it and a huge amount of people will love it !!!

Attached the pic of a pretty simple prototype possibility - 100kHz motion style.

Depth is not very good with such mini-coil - a horseshoe ca. 10cm.
Usually its a pinpointer with narrowed (overlayed) original coil in a smaller housing.

But it works already while walking over coins directly on the floor.
Using some gaffer tape and gum-boots is the simplest solution.
This way also some other pinpointer could be attached.

The usual ca. 15cm diameter plastic coil of such cheap security detectors
could be melted a little bit over heat and bended 90° and made more
eliptical so it fits directly over the shoes with larger coil inside a stable plastic housing.
But the standard coil is a little bit too small for that, it should have ca. 18-20cm instead of just 13cm diameter.
