on/off type pots

I know this should be elementary but does it matter which way the pos/neg is attached to an on/off type potentiomenter? I have not used them prior, only spst
switches in my builds and other stuff but I want to add one to a current build I am working on. I only have one so don't want to screw it up, I'd like to know for sure since I am not finding any info on it and before connecting it up.

oopss... i just recently did repair of dimmer of a torchere... same type of switch. on your pic is with pot.
mine was only as a switch, without pins of pot. could not find it nowhere.
there is not such pos/neg. no matter doing. i did open it. do you see it at ebay or aliexpress?

The negative wire connect directly to pcb and - of battery. The positive is connected to pcb and to either to the two leg of the pot then the + of battery is connected on the other leg o the pot.

Hi Geo

The switch is a SPST, just ON or OFF and has no polarity. It is also isolated from the Pot.

Thanks Chet, that is what I assumed, same principle as a standard toggle. I just wasn't sure if it was connected inside since I have never used one for building stuff.
