    conventional vlf s use a take off from the Tx to generate the Rx sampler gate.

    The Rx samples are about 180degrees of the Tx signal.


    In all metal, the Sens for non ferrous is good as the sample sits over the whole area where the alloy signal lives in time.


    With the Disc wound out a little later the sample gets some of the alloy signal but a fair chunk of nothing. This mutes the sens in Disc mode due the area under tha sample curve containing less signal and the average of some to none is less favourable.

    If the Sample gate width was about half of what it is currently I would hope the sample with the Disc wound out would have more signal and less dead area.

    This should give a more crisp punch machine in disc mode?

    1 all metal with good sens to alloy ( generous Fe sens too )
    2 Disc wound out - less alloy signal in sense - lower average sense - ( Slight crack from the Fe )
    3 Sub sample - should be more sens to alloy as ratio of signal to no signal average during sample - more favourable.

    You'd get a marginally better conversion efficiency, but with sine wave drive you'd not get any of the benefits you describe.
