It is not expensive, it is pulse induction which is good for the beach
and depending on the coil-size you also can detect very deep stuff!
Building different kind of coils for the detector also is no problem.

Hello Hammerhead,

you have 2 options:

1. future electronics should help you with the coil
2. ask if they can find for you another metal-detector

Thank you for the pictures - well, your coil looks pretty large.

I don't know how much power and sensitivity the arduino detector has
but perhaps it is better for you, if you start first with some smaller coil.


A law of thumb for coils is: Use the same amount or length of wire.

That's why some 1 meter pulse induction loops only contain just 10 windings.
It doesn't work for all detectors this way but pulse induction coils are not that
complicated to built. Just make sure that the windings are fixed tight together.
If the PI-detector is too weak, a too large coil will lose the most of its energy.
Perhaps the coil diameter limit for the arduino is ca. 30cm. Make some tests.


Anyways, I hope that you have now the direct support from the guys of
future electronics! And, they have shown already that the arduino works.
So the problems should be solved very soon and perhaps they even can
find for you some better metal detector! If they have good connections.

Try 25 turns on a 25cm diameter circular coil.
Did you remember to fit a damping resistor?

but perhaps you are meanwhile a suspect because of the "not allowed" content of
