              @ FatBob
WOW, this miniaturization is fantastic work. Respect!

              Hi Hammerhead,

It is a very good idea to check out the sand under water and see what heavy stuff is inside it.
Your video will be interesting I hope you can shoot it soon.

If you can't buy directly, import or order via internet metal-detectors you can try a smartphone MD:

              http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showt...ght=smartphone
The upload file might have been already deleted but here is the content you can search at the internet:

              Metal Detector (1).apk
Metal Detector 1.2.4 Final By bobiras2009.apk
              Metal Detector Free.apk
              Metal Detector.apk
              Metal Sniffer - Metal Detector.apk
              Smart Compass.apk

This is for smartphones with android, not for i-phones.

The detection range is just short and it might have no iron-discrimination.

Do you have shopping-centers for persons who built their own houses?
You might find cable searchers for the walls there, these are also cheap metal detectors.

At youtube you can watch clips that show how a simple radio can turned into a detector.

You can check out if personal-control hand held detectors are allowed and somewhere to get!
Those for body-searches. Used at night clubs or airports, security groups have them.

But the most simple way is that you go to Cairo and get into contact with the
"organized antique re-searchers". Because meanwhile Egypt is full of people
who look for old stuff they can sell so they can survive at all.
They have all the metal detectors you want, new or second-hand, they even work with Ground Penetration Radar.

Visit the souk (market) at Cairo or at the Valley Of The Kings where they sell the antique stuff
and get into contact with the diggers. For you as a treasure-digger this is very easy to do.
Egypt is full of metal detectors and people who use them! With some luck you might be even able
to get in contact with them via internet over arabic treasure-hunting forums.

                      Hi Hammerhead,

thank you for the pictures. Here you can see your hometown Alexandria on a very old map from almost 2000 years ago:
                      http://www.geotech1.com/forums/attac...2&d=1455188011

To built a metal detector, you also can search at google for:
                      "simple metal detector circuit"

You might find some BFO construction manual (Beat Frequency Oscillator) which works like some modified AM-radio.
This is really very simple to built. It has no discrimination but for the beginning its better than nothing.

Personally spoken I would look to find a way to get some already complete metal-detector.
Go to the docks and ask someone to bring you a MD from Greece or Italy.
Or go to the border where the neighbor-country has more free laws.
Don't you have any relatives in other foreign countries so you can order some detector to their address?

Another question is: how good are your electronic-skills?
Because if they are very good you can create with the parts of almost any broken electronic device
something. Rip apart some old DVD-player or VCR-recorder.

And if you are very afraid of problems you better use a small hand-held metal-detector.
You can order them from China for 10 dollars - very cheap. coins: 10cm , maximum: 30cm.

I'm shure you will find a way to get a metal-detector because you have proven already
being a very creative person. Its just a question of time.

                            Good grief!
That's even more crowded than the Black Sea beaches in Bulgaria.

What about mechanical probing? For example knitting needles, or a bicycle spoke screwed into a simple handle. That may help you find 'hot spots', and then use the spade and sieve. Bottle diggers use spring-steel probes to 'listen' for glass bottles, maybe this may be adapted? It's cheap, and worth a try. Spring steel can be salvaged from the bead hoop of vehicle tyres (bicycle / car). Sometimes it's too thin, but it can be 1mm+.

                                Absolutly good idea!
Hammerhead even can comb deep through the sand-dunes with some rake or selfbuilt grill, made of spring-steel.

                                @ Hammerhead:

                                Everything OK, nice you asked.
Thanks for the pictures. Too bad if you can't find out why those circuit-boards not functioning.
Your soldering work so far looks pretty good on the pictures.
Of course you can use the parts from those boards to built some working metal detector electronic.

But perhaps it should not be and its better you buy a metal-detector!

I have found out for you the following:

The Lebanon would be not too far from Alexandria! Check this out:

                                http://www.gdidetection.com/
                                http://www.gdidetection.com/ar/products/cat-30/0
The website is in english and arabic language, so its also perfect for you.
                                Location: very close to Beirut.

And you even could buy there the Makro Racer, which I really can recommend.
Or you may find there some water-proven detector for the sea and for diving.

Just contact the customer service and perhaps you even can get special prices
                                or second hand metal detectors.
