Homemade uMaxII and con head

Hello. I've been absent for a while due to gigs, writing, other stuff, learning guitar and washing up. I intend to get out this year. With a Tesoro uMaxII (shop bought) what sort of depth might I see? In air I can detect a 5p at 7 or 8". Would this be reasonable? I made a DD coil as well which is a little bit less sensitive (about 1/2 to 1") and not as precise as my CC (which I built inside a coil cover and then sealed). I've also made a pinpointer (good to around 3cm) which seems about typical.

I have a Bandido and 6" concentric. Can check latter. Been out digging all day and need some sleep. Sounds like you are in the right ball park. From memory a cut half was around 7".

Be careful testing with a 5p modern ones are iron after about 2012. I still detect them fine but only if flats to the ground.

Got a Canadian and Latvian coins of the same size

Varies quite a lot depending how hot I run the machine. With more sensitivity than I can run in the field and threshold right up I get anywhere from 7.5" to 9" depending if I start close to the coil and work outwards of more realistic in the field settings with a threshold setting that would work in all metal mode its around 6" Diggable signal occasionally going out to 7" iffy signal.


Clad 5p is loud but iron tone till 4" and then its totally discriminated out.

Thanks to both you guys, sounds like I have a pretty good UMaxII for ,as you say, just a few Bucks.
Don't think my pinpointer is much use but heigh ho. Minor issue with GB on the UMax but I am looking at that now.
The Disc works fine althoug as a beginner anything is great so I tend to use all metal mode. I believe I have one of the best collections of Ring pulls and nails in the UK, and its growing every day.
