  • Troy X5, help needed

In need of Troy X5 repair, stateside. This is my backup detector and will not respond through the coil to any metal. The control box does work as far as hum, battery check, etc.

My apology if this is off topic as I do understand this forum is way over my head... I'm a senior citizen needing my exercise and I really don't have time to learn a new detector at this point. 😀

If you or someone can check it out and bring it back to life I will really appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    George S

I am looking for information leading to a person with the knowledge, ability, willingness to repair this detector.
I would love to be able to repair it myself but unfortunately that is not the case.

      Thank you,
      George

Most likely the coil cable has a broken wire. Easier to troubleshoot if you have
another one to try. If you can find someone with a meter you could have them
check for 2 pairs of connections of low ohms. I'm not close enough to GA to
stop by to help. If you can find an old TV repair shop or ask around for a
handy man who does electronics it might be an easy fix...

Thanks Bob. I tried another coil but with the same results. I ordered some electronics cleaner and will clean the coil connectors, both ends and see if it may be a dirty connection at the control box.
