Re: Ever try the Bandito ground bal to salt mod yet Carl?
No, haven't had time to do it. Got an emergency trip to Germany I'm getting ready for, followed by vacation. So it will be a while before I can get to it. Plus, not sure where I left off on the Bandido, it may or may not be working right now.

Wait! Bandido II pic...
What are the two center switches?
What switch is all metal mode?
I have a momentary labled pinpoint. Another is disc/all metal. When in all metal it is in the auto mode only. The pinpoint will activate the normal mode which will also interrupt the disc mode. I thought it was a neat way to do the normal mode.

Re: Bandido III
For RX boost, I had planned to up the front-end gain. Might work for low-noise environments, where mineralization is also low. For TX boost, I was going to twiddle the Colpitts bias current, but as I recall, it's alread maxxed out. So now maybe convert that switch to salt mode!

There y' go!
Salt switch, hmmm who gave you that idea.
I lowered R1 to 1K and got more signal, however if the disc is full CCW you will overdrive IC5B, unless you add a 100k to ground at that input. The swing goes beyond -3 volts. Maybe if the negative supply was -4 or -5 it would work out.

Got a little noisey?
Hard to tell.
What if I take out all the bells and wistles like no motion all metal, discrimination (just let it disc out iron), sensitivity and thresh controls, basically just an on/off. Heck, take that out too. Maybe then I can get some nice gain without noise. It is a backup/visitor machine anyway and is only used on the beach. I can dedicate it to be just a raw power grab and go sand machine. Just think, no switch and pot wires! I wonder if I should change the frequency to about 12Khz to help with small gold?
