  • technique or detector for field not producing the goods.

Just been on a field with a few other people. Nobody found anything CTX Deus AT Pro among the mix.

The field has not been hammered to death but has been detected lightly before with some nice finds.

Since then there has been a plough championship held on the field then rolled and seeded and it had rained over night.

The field is absolutely covered in coke. Almost touching each other and wildly varied some acting as hot rock other cold rock.

Plus overhead high voltage electrify lines.

Did not find anything below the first few inches.

First question would different hardware help. Detector or coil. Guess my pulse would have done better

Second is there an adjustment of ground balance, threshold discrimination or sensitivity that would have helped. IDX and Bandido.

Third is could the overnight rain made it worse or the strong wind drying the surface fast. Normally damp is good.

The problem is most likely the coke masking any good targets. Perhaps you could try a smaller coil (4" or 5") to get amongst the trash.

Koala says his 'pulse would have done better'. I would definitely give it a try as I have never ever had problems with coke as its conductivity is too low. Sometimes there is confusion with furnace slag, which often contains iron. There you do have a problem. Also PI's do not mind if the ground is wet or dry.

      Eric.
