"...if he dies before his wife, she'll throw the whole lot in the skip..."

Usually it ends like that. That's sad and stupid.
But i have quite different attitude towards this; those collections are having great value in your mind as long as you enjoy collecting them and keeping them.
So... what's gonna happen later when we are not here... usually it doesn't matter nor i shall worry about.
Those after us, if they are smart; they will find some benefit from our stuff. Otherwise ... their misfortune!
    ...
Cars! If i was British; i would form a collection of Robin Reliants! Each month i would organize race with them! Among friends and family!

Hmmm. Old cars. What a heartbreaker. The roughies I sold as a young bloke for $200-$500 are now worth up to $35,000 restored. And many got crushed when steel to China was at a premium. 1970's Holdens, Fords, and Valiants used to be everywhere. Now you can barely find one. I had a 1956 International AS110 coupe ute, at Dads, that went the same way.
BUT, I still have a '53 Willys traytop 4wd, nearly rust free to restore-one day.
The saddest thing is no cars will be made in Oz as of next year- our pollies have whored our jobs, industry, commodities, land, and essential and major services, to their multi-national puppeteers. Treason against the Children of Australia, in my view.
