garret ace-250 uses very simple concept. all does analog part, uchip used only for LCD.

The QED's functionning is most electronic too ? PI needs more electronics to be decrypted by a MCU i think.

I'm afraid of BT signal perturbation in coil nulling. I've been told that the neerest of the coil is the best for electronic. Maybe a good shielding would get rid of that.

One word : WAHOUOUOU !!!
It gives me an idea :
Modulate (AM) the TX signal X10 with the RX signal an transmit it to the receiver.
It would be simple to recover both signals.
Adding a Qi charger would resolve water issue. The battery would be enclose in a compartment sealed with silicon.
