Hi,
That should work but i've never load hex file with arduino, only sketchs.
The simplyest way is to buy a usbasp for 2£ on ebay. Thdn, you can use many progras, even arduino with standalone chip.
I'm not sure that the bootloader of a standalone chip is compatible with krot hex file.
For the krot2, the only way is to buy SMD ATXMEGA32A and usbasp won't fit it.
You can use arduino as a pid programmer to program your KROT2.
I can also programm it for you for the price of the shipping cost.

i thing the tgsl is big pcb which means big box
i wanted one light weight so much choice

About coil, i just copied what author wrote:

Coil type DD 230 mm outer diameter. TX - 40-45 turns of wire 0.5 mm and RX - 200 turns of wire 0.2 mm. Winding TX switched to the metal detector with the serial resonance capacitor 0.3 mF, the resonant frequency of 8.192 kHz turned out, the RX coil is switched to the metal detector with parallel resonance, and is tuned to a frequency of 1.5 - 2 kHz below the resonant frequency of the TX.

If u don't like pcb for TGSL, take a look on this Tesoro Eldorado, i'ts a litlle bit smaller than TGSL...

Well, for iron infested area's, there is no faster machine than Xp Deus, no doubt. But there is word about diy. For iron infested area, tgsl will be good, it has very good recovery speed and it is realy good in rejecting ancient rusty nail's.
