  • Tesoro Sand Shark substitute

    Hi to all from Croatia,

I'm new to this forum, and I'm almost total noob in electronics. I did some things years ago, cable for my nokia 5110 and 3210 - downloaded schematics from Internet and succesfully assembled… so I hope that I'm capable to assemble DIY kit.

What brings me here is that I have broken Sand Shark… bought used from ebay (so I don't have warranty), died after few days… just started smoking from it. I saw that one resistor became darker due to the influence of heat. I decided to take it to my friend, who is professional in repairing electronic things. He noticed that not only the resistor is black but also one transistor which is placed near. So I contacted Tesoro and they gave me the info about burned parts… (The R2= 20 OHM 1/4 watt and Q2= 2N2907). Friend changed the parts but problem remained, he changed some other parts but with no success… I found partial schematics of SS PCB on this forum, so I will once again ask my him to try fix it.

But, if he does not have time to play with it any more my plan is to buy some of DIY kits and use the remaining parts of Sand Shark.

The question is, which one to buy? There is few PI projects, all looks good but… which one could fit in to SS housing, and which could work with the coil (10.5“ - 358uH) I have?

    Thank you in advance

And yes, I found this: Sandshark shema.pdf

        Is that what you metioned?

There is a Note: This schematic is only partial, and does not show the micro controller, power supplies, and user controls. Unmarked cap values were not measured.
