  • Ring vs pull tab

My CTX cannot seem to differentiate between a gold ring and pull tabs - both showing 12-15 on the CTX. Some Tesoro detectors seem to be able to differentiate them though - by means of a notch filter. What is going on here? Why can't the CTX and other detectors do the same or better? Does the CTX need a third parameter besides Conductivity and Ferrous to accomplish it?

Which Tesoro detectors can differentiate the two ?

TGSL? I made two of them and they both discriminate pulltab and aluinium foil while gold ring is detected in every possible position. It was mens wedding gold ring. Smaller earring is discriminated with pulltabs...

Equally IGSL - It is possible to set low tone for pulltabs and high tone for coins and rings.

"Golden uMax" is in the videos on YouTube. I have a Tejon and they say there is a way to set it up also. But the real key would be to use in my case ring and tabs that come up 12-15 on my CTX. Both tabs and rings can obviously come up with other ID's so the test has to be one that takes this into account. The YouTube videos could be using a ring that has a way different ID than the tab.. giving a false conclusion.

I have tried several other detectors on the ring and pulltab and all detect them identically. (Spectrum XLT, Classic 1 SL, GMT, GP Extreme, Goldbug2 - sorry rather vintage eh?)
Now I'm going back to play with the TI LDC1000 and play with setup parameters.

Gold ring is open to interpretation.

24K or 9K thick mans to very thin ladies.

Thin lower quality ones will usually be in the tab region even on the Tesoro especially in the ground or if the ring is broken

Thanks for the info, I have GMT, Goldbug2, they work fine

might try and find a "Golden uMax" and have a play.

                Pull tab is too.

Yeah, both can have ID's that vary/differ so the golden umax videos are probably misleading.
If I want to eliminate the tabs I should mask out most everything but the silver and if I want to find gold rings like mine I should mask out everything except for 12-15 - and dig a couple hundred tabs before finding a ring...
Have you guys analyzed pi pulse returns though to verify that gold and aluminum look identical?

                    Yep.

Most beach hunter that are successful will dig thousand of ring pulls and safety tabs to a few rings even then most will be junk in the freshly dropped areas.

However over time time the sea sorts by weight so aluminium will be higher up the beach and the gold and coins will be at the same area as the fishing weight with no pull tabs

parks you just have to keep digging them.

I often detect areas where people detect by numbers. Love it. Even found a pocket spill of 5 large coins exactly where they were just been detecting (gap in a hedge) because the close proximity of the coins confused the numbers.

Generally here in the U.K. the percentage of rubbish to keepers is quite high

Just out of curiosity as I dig anything just over iron. I have just picked up a fisher 1265x and tested it on the only tab and gold ring I still have.

Modern square safety tab is just under 6
Medium ladies wedding ring is just over 7 on the discrimination

Which I guess is over 20 degrees on the POT

U.S. Nickels and smaller Gold Rings are all but the same as a Pull Tab to most detectors. Anyone Serious about finding Jewelry detect without Discrimination.

If you select a ring and a pull tab, both having same ID on the CTX, will their PI coil flyback (detect) profile be identical?

Charted amplifier out decay, US nickel and a pull tab. Don't know how they would ID with a VLF detector. I charted a nickel and pull tab awhile back, thought they charted closer but this is what I got today. Both targets in same location. Tab from a recent purchase.

I was referring to VLF but looks pretty dang close on the PI as well. People use a U.S. Nickel as Substitute to see if there PI will detect a nugget.
