  • Pulse Detector Depth Proformance

someone i know has nearly completed a pulse project with vco audio somewhat based partly on the goldscan 5 and claims smooth audio with depth on a 10p uk coin at 20" and 50p at 22"...im really daunted as its not easy for me to get this sort of proformance and i cant motivate myself now to carry on with my pulse projects...i cannot afford to buy a white's tdi pro or a secondhand gold scan 5 as im unemployed on sick benifit.....ive never found many rings like the locals who are very successful at finding deep rings and with this other person making this deep pulse detector its really knocked me for six

Get out More. You can't find anything if you don't get out and hunt. If your detector only gets you 10" you will find things if you get it over things. LOL

i suffer with depression and detecting can be a way of helping myself but if i feel that others have deeper machines then it makes me feel worst....cause i really want to find something nice for my wife...im down to home made machine now as i had to sell my whites dfx cause of my money situation...things where i live are now very deep and was hoping to try a goldscan 5 but that dream seems now gone...if i had the money i would buy a gs 5 or whites tdi pro but that dream is so distant now.

You have to stop thinking to end the depression and your wife should cheer you up. LOL
And then get the Makro Racer with vibration and listen to good music while hunting.

If this is from an air test on the bench, then I would take it with a pinch of salt. Only field testing with show how good it really is.
I assume you haven't actually seen the detector in operation?

The only PI detector that can get this kind of depth on modern coins is the GPX from Minelab and perhaps the Lorentz.
Since no one have ever managed to copy these two I do not see how anyone with another much less advanced PI would get these depths. I wouldn't worry much if I was in your place as these claims are quite far fetched.
When folks bury coins at the bottom of a hole they can get even 25" depths, but those are not real results as every pot hole will enhance the signal strength from any target.

And why should be copied Lorenz or GPX from Minelab when can someone invents his way ?

The "locals" probably know the best places to search plus it is a bit like gamblers you only ever here of the wins you will not here about the 50+ deep holes they have dug to only recover a ring pull or coke can .Get out and get detecting if you can, try and enjoy it and you may be lucky.

Whether they are of depth with included channel two or with one channel ? With one channel and coil 11inches I have a similar range in my pi detector with vco with one channel .

this local guy ive known for some years and he is a real good electronics engineer but like many people gets idea's from detector sites like this one maybe...he got hold of the gold scan 5 diagram as posted on this site and used the best parts of the circuit to get a very stable proformance with vco (not click click type)and using digital chips for the oscillator and timing pulses and he made his own multi strand litz wire with teflon tape...and even plans to use an lcd ID meter for some sort of discrimination circuit that he has developed.....he texts me and tells me his latest tests which really rubs salt into my wounds
this guy is one of the most successful detectorists in our area and over a period of about twenty years has found approx between 5-6 thousand rings...the problem is that now most of the rings say that are buried 16" down have been found i would say...and another guy has bought a white's tdi sl and things have opened up again for him finding more rings...and now this other guy boasting 22" on a 50p coin with his home made machine has really made me want to give up cause what will be left to find ???? my depression has got worst now and i cannot even go in my workshop and do any projects....whats the point ??? i guess im just going through a bad time in my life but these greedy detectorists make me feel like ****.

I was once on a detecting rally where everyone was complaining about lack of finds. There were quite a lot of people there with many different detectors. Towards the end of the day I was talking with an old lady who was using an ancient C-scope. She wasn't able to walk very far, so she had mainly detected by the entrance to the field. In her finds bag she had two lovely shiny gold stators. Needless to say, once she showed her finds to others, they were all over the area like a rash ... but found nothing. It just shows that you don't necessarily need to have the best detector, just a little patience. Many times I've seen the same folks racing around the field like a demon, and then going home 2 hours later empty-handed and saying that the dig was crap. On a few occasions I've dug up roman coins near the field entrance, which literally hundred of detectorists have passed over. You've got to take it more slowly and don't get obsessed by depth.

                          Nothing but plain truth!
Most of the precious finds that i remember were very shallow.
But also constantly missed by field "runners" (me too).
Then it comes the "old man" with "old detector" and collects them easily.
We have pretty old (1944.) man in a crew. Carrying F4 most of the time.
He has both bad knees and lot of pains, so he walks slowly like a snail.
At the end of a day; he smiles and the rest of us are felling miserable!
Main wisdom is; walk slowly and catch the "edges" son!

Because PI technology requires far more sophisticated electronics to achieve results better than GPX and Lorentz. Simplified PI's just don't get this job done.
Of course there are many PI guys that will show some startling air test results, but the ground is a different matter.

i have really tried hard to get good proformance from basic designs like surf pi but really there is only so far you can go with these circuits...ive had problems with earth cancell with nearly all my surf pi projects...and you come to a point where you feel like giving up trying.....its ok for people who can afford GPX Lorentz tdi pro's but im not in a situation where i can afford one...i just want to have a chance against other detectorists who have machines with good depth cause where i live most gold items and old coins are deep like 18" plus...tdi pro or maybe gs 5 could have given me a chance of some success but they are out of my reach....sometimes i wish i had the knowledge to make a really deep seeking detector from scratch but because of my depression and anxiety problems and lack of expertise its hard for me to do...i just get so frustrated...Nexus i always thought pi detectors go deeper in wet sand than in air ????
