Absolutely.....now you are seeing the true picture. Empower yourself and call out your friend with his claims. Tell him there is this guy in Australia who is planning to fly out and wants to meet him and film this amazing new coil and has his cheque book in hand. Let's see what sort of reaction you get from him.
You most certainly are not making anyone here feel bad...quite the opposite actually. It sounds like you are on the positive mental path, stay on that path, be your own person, remember seeing is believing. The irony is "your friend" is the one with issues and has to resort to certain techniques to boost his well-being.....stay away from these people as they are toxic. Take some deep breaths and keep feeding your positivity and you'll be just fine !!

Hi Tony....maybe this detectorist has made these statements to make me feel bad and to make me more depressed !!! ive got to try and toughen up and not listen to no more crap from this guy !!! i have my good and bad days but im really trying to get my act together and be more positive....i didnt mean to make people feel bad on here by saying about the claims of this detectorist but i guess im too naive in believing what people claim

There are a lot of variables going on here, I would call this mate of yours and get him to meet you at a beach, bury a ring at 18 inches and get him to prove he can detect it.

Hi Tony & 6666.....i have sent a text to this guy and mentioned to him peoples thoughts on his detector and he replied to me and said once he has fully completed this detector like including ID display he is going to post his detector on youtube for all to see so it seems he a very adament about his claims about depth on gold rings..but in any case im not that concerned any more but just want to try and pull myself up and whatever i find or dont find its just being happy with what i can do...as life is too short to worry about these things

Hi 6666......To be honest he is not a friend but someone ive known for many years who makes his own metal detectors and is a beach detectorist...he made also a non pulse machine which is a vlf motion/non motion type with a single coil and full discrimination which he
has used for some years now and has been very successful with it on the beach in the summer.
I guess it will be interesting to see if he can do this ID but without iron disc...he stated he may use a separate ferrous spear type item
to ID iron.....i was at one time going to try and use magnometers to try and reject iron but seems to difficult to set up in a mechanical
way...at present im really trying to push myself to get my detectors sorted out...but my low mood swings are hard for me to overcome

You have to remember that ring-shaped targets are the easiest to detect. Also, he doesn't need to go down to 9us delay to successfully detect coins and rings, and with such a low sample delay there will be lots of false signals from salt water.

Hello George.....Nearly all my projects have been based on surf pi with modification...i did try the hammer head some years ago but had problems so i didnt spend much time on that...i really like the surf pi as it fits into plastic tubes and is very straight forward in construction...i have other pcb's like mirage...mini pulse...cross bow....but ive never got around to making these...im very slow at times in doing things...i want to try other designs but sometimes it hard for me to motivate myself cause of my problems.....sometimes i think it would be easier just to have a good commerial detector like gs 5 or tdi pro cause it gives me more confidence in finding something nice...when things improve for me money wise i will try for sec ondhand tdi pro maybe in the future...and go and kick some butt on the beach

Hi 666....i feel sometimes this detectorist is just using me to promote his detector...to be honest whatever !!! some of his idea's have come from other people's design's like eric's gs 5 so he is just a copier of other peoples technology...if he was that cleaver he would design from his own mind...i feel such a fool now in telling people about this detectorist...im just too naive for my own good.

You also have to remember that depth measurements are somewhat subjective, especially in sand. When you add in any personal bias to the results, you get the ultimate detector.

I guess people just want to boast and make others like me feel daunted....but i just dont want to play the game anymore ! i will try and do the best i can with the surf pi's that i have and also ive been using another pulse detector which is on loan to me and its such a great machine on the beach !!!maybe when things improve for me then i will try and get a tdi pro which is the ultimate machine to me and designed by the best designer in the world Eric Foster...i may also experiment with either the mirage or the mini pulse and see what results i can get.

who cares if his detectors better if it is lol to him it must be, am a bit like you months of depression well how long i am in pain for, i have scheuermann's disease constant pain it is but at least i get out now and again even if its just for a hour or so, with my detectors I BUILT and yes my electronics suff is my escape to when i can do it, if not i program the wife understands and my kids to 37 years of constant pain but hey im still here doing my stuff

its true i guess what does it matter if someones machine is better than another...my pain is in my mind cause of things in the past that have happened to me and people who have hu rt me emotionally....the person i mentioned who made this detector i have known for many years but he has a habit of using people to prosper himself and i guess ive never learned to be strong and not to let people use me..i cannot class him as a true friend cause true friends dont use you to get what they want !! i tend to keep going down the same path and not learning from the past..in some ways i wish i had not mentioned him on this site !!!! im just a silly person who meddles in other peoples ego's and by doing this im helping to promote his idea's...maybe he is reading this but i dont care anymore...i feel like no more the fool !!! i should concentrate on my proje cts and try to better myself so i can find things for my lovely wife.

Hey Dave was it you that was experimenting with a frequency counter on the output of the preamp ? what was the outcome of that ?
