  • I think I've created a monster....

It's been a while since I've posted and finally finished my winter
project of my surf. It's all done, potted, poled and ready to go.
Now after taking as much info as possible from this fantastic site and
not being technically minded the hardest part was the coil. After a few
unsuccessful attempts I've def nailed it. Now Please be aware I am reporting as I find.
This evening after tweaking some more im finding amazing sensitivity and depth.
So to start I tried to find the smallest metallic object I had which was a
screw in my electronics box. This measure about 3mm x 3mm. I can get a
    a clear 3" on this. On a 1/4W resistor with 4".
It goes on, a small child's gold ring a iclear 8", pound coin 14". Now I love the hobby
but clearing a beach of staples makes me tired thinking about it.
These are air tests in my living room, I took it to a beach briefly to test depth
but didnt stay long as i had to open the control housing and didn't have my screwdriver.
In the real world at the beach who knows but air tests have far exceeded
    my expectations.
If you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them.
BTW I've built my own vacuum table and produced my own coils.
I will have a 10 and 12" shells for sale very shortly.
Thanks to all here for your knowledge and wisdom.
im having trouble with the orientation of my pics. I will change them when I have time!

Hahah you used drain pipe the same as me, only thing is I used a cable gland and made the whole thing wade proof. I used IP67 pots and 3D printed mounting brackets but yours is a sweet machine. WELL DONE!

Hi Sean, thanks for your kind words. I deliberated on making
it water/wade proof but I already own an original surfmaster and
cz21 and really didn't need the extra headache . It was really a project
to see if I was capable of such a project. It kinda fits in with my ethos that
"everything is easy if you try".
When I have time (and find a old Mac compatible camera) I'm going to do a
            video about my project.
This year I hope to be more prominent on Geotech and share my adventures
