  • Metal detector with full metal rods instead of ABS

    Hi,

i want to use a telescop rod for my metal detector but its made of steel at the tip.
I saw that old metal detectors had full metall rods at the coil.

Does it make a big difference?

Pretty big, it will change precise GB condition and even at motion detectors you will not be able to use pinpoint.

Ok , then i will make my coil in a metal free environment and test it with the full metal rod,
if it doesnt work i will change it to abs or some other plastic.

It will work but the Metal extending down within the Coils field will distort the field and cause issues with Field shape and size. This is why detector manufacturers started using ABS or other plastics on the shaft ends. Use your telescopic shaft, just use ABS , Carbon Fiber or even PVC at least as long as the coil is wide to connect to the coil.
