Here's a little mod I did on my killer B's. They already had a switch that was not being used, so why not? The limiter kicks in just right so you can turn up the weak signals without the loud ones overloading your ears.
I don't know if it's a good thing to play with the audio of the Killer B's or any headphone for that matter. They are good headphones and the audio tells you allot about what's in the ground. If you start masking the sound or limiting it's audio level then you don't have a true sound of what's in the ground. You can take any target and put it in the ground in different positions with different soil conditions and different moisture levels and you will get different sounds. I guess if you need to dig a penny at 16 inches or like digging big holes in the ground then focus on the weak signals but my experience unless you're a relic hunter is that most targets are less than 8 to 10 inches down and that's good enough for me.
I hear this response a lot and it seems logical to me. But once in a while on the beach I switch it on. This limiter basically will make targets from 6 inches to coil sound the same volume. The signal on my X5 is a square wave and this does not affect any other properties of the response. So if I can boost those 10 to 16 inches a little louder but still tell the difference between a 16 up to 6 (dynamics not affected), I would say, what's the harm?
I can still decide whether to dig a deep target, the only difference would be, I am more likely to know I have a deep target.
Yet I do understand that learning a paticular detectors language is important, yes, why chance it? Because engineers take stuff appart!
just copies of old fisher audio sears W/clipper circuits
Hey Rat and Gang
Yes the Fisher phones where the Real Deal... they started the Timber wolfs, Grey ghost and a host of other knock offs the secret lies in the AudioSears and and a thing called reluctance and an old western electric patent as for the muffs the diff. in 24 db and 29 db niose {NRR}insulation may have more to do with who you pay to certify the MUFF, than you or I can hear and what fits well on jugghead may not fit pinhead at all ... which lead's to more distraction to pinhead.{ambient Noise}
Hey rat, you want to improve your art.. check out this site and work on your soddering http://headwize.com you may discover what you have been missing!
Hah hahaa! Yes I have more torn up detectors than most.. if not.. "the most expensive"... but of coarse they work better now :~)

ps. the GS{Golden Sabre} Micro is surface mount and yes that is an old GS schematic but someone good could run with it. Any... Way Pray for our Boys in the East...there is no substitute for victory...
I actually broke one of the thin wires on one of the audio sears speakers in the KB's and replaced them with heavier speakers I got from some telephones they were thowing away at work. It's hard to tell if they are better, but the Audio Sears sound more crisp, probably due to a more limited freq response.
