listen to dave j, he has designed detectors and knows his stuff, a range of add on products that fit any or all detectors is the way to go.
be very careful of no name chinese developed electronics, they never design their own stuff, you may think you are getting novel un branded items to build up or rebadge but they will be clones.
not trying to put you off or upset you, but if any of your circuits are copies of known designs lawyers will strip you to the bone, and skint you.
i have worked in electronics and would not design and build a detector for production, its a mine field and over saturated at any budget.
you should also know that in detector circles chinese made stuff does not sell well(even when its good).
well made locally produced(uk) add-on devices will be far more saleable, make and build your devices here, and build demand and a name for your gear first.

The Chinese "kits" are going to be one of two things:
          1. A copy of another company's design (most likely American).
          2. The usual innards of the majority of Chinese detectors produced under many different names.

You would be advised to heed the words of Dave J. and sinclairuser, and think very carefully before committing to anything.

i think it is better to contact some european manufactures as invent the wheel new
maybe the can produce all small series of detector with the characteristics you want (i think if you purchase a lot of at least 100 detectors)

              > metal detectors for disabled and deaf people here in the UK.

This is a honorful task, I've also informed already some communities in Europe who care about
blind people that they can have now a new hobby by using metal-detectors and pinpointers !!

Why??? Because I'm also sometimes searching around almost blind into the woods at night!
This works because the MD-stem is like the cane of blinds - you can "feel" the area ahead.

And of course MDs with vibration work very good for deaf people, too.

If you wanna just create some vibrating plug as addon:
              http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showt...via-audio-jack
I've started this project already 2 years ago.

The sensitivity has to be adjusted for each single detector extra.
Best it works with those who just have audio on or off because the erratic noise
sometimes has more "energy" or dB as the main find signals.

btw. you don't need to let produce a whole MD at China.
You can invent some adjustable vibrating audio-plug with some logic
inside which detects the volume and signal structure (also if analog or digital)
and this way you have a market-niche and the interested persons can
buy whatever MD they like together with your vibration-dongle.

Some professional version of course would have different vibration structures
at least for noble and for all-metal or iron: rr-rr-rr-rr-rr... & rrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

I manufacture these - www.nexusdetectors.com - and I know what are you going to get your self into.

Hell yeah - that's really a problem if the electronic etc. work becomes tooooo much.
I really love to tinker, to built, invent, repair, improve etc. technical and electronic stuff
but not if it starts consuming all of my precious treasure-hunting quality time!

The main compromise would be to do in winter-time the technical work
and in summer the hunting but that's also not the best deal.

Of course it depends on the motivation - I guess I would feel very proud if I
could introduce my personal created and "mass-wise" produced MD to the world
but I would rather throw away that "abstract" feeling for being able having
                      enough real treasure-hunting adventures.

The secret of success always is: "Do what you like and like what you do!"
At best with some passion or "never-ending" enthusiasm.

And sometimes its better to start something and check out how the way goes
than just dreaming and planing but doing nothing to realize it.

Maybe you can work together with Nexus, providing the vibration-etc. modules for models which fits your needs best.

Hi, Ian & Joanna, how is your business advancing? Have you started developing the detector already? If not, I have a serious proposition for a specific machine that will compete with models of the top market segment. I have experience in reverse engineering and some contacts with manufacturers in Taiwan. Pm me if you are interested, we can discuss this in detail.
