This project will probably stretch my skill level so didn't want an extra unknown of a home etched board.
I liked the videos of the Fortune PRO. Seems to out preforms the Quasar but not having the program updates put me of.
Quasar been around for quite sometime so all the niggles should have been worked outwell that's the plan.
Started to read the forum for tips. 300+ pages nothing interesting in the first 10 pages.

CDI, how do you know the Krot3 is good? did you try one? I built two krot2 detectors, and could not get it to work without instability and false positives. To solder a atxmega, you do it under a magnifier. I use a camera telephoto lens. you carefully solder just the corner pins to lock it down then solder the rest. I have had much better luck with the Quasar Arm, but the firmware does not have all the bugs worked out.

I ordered a set from ebay, circuit board with all components, because a part was missing the dealer gave me two PCBs. So I ordered the rest of the missing and built two devices. Since it is very difficult to find out the important information from the thousands of Russian contributions in the forum, I'm adding here an English-language summary. I discovered at ebay. The author will hopefully do not mind, after all, it increases the chances that he sells his sets.
And another picture of some finds with the quasar.

Why search, I wanted to share the English-language summary here.
If someone tries to translate texts from the Russian to the English (in my case into the German) with google translator this often gives funny but little helpful results. I hope it helps someone who wants to build this device.
Some things still are not quite clear to me, e.g. the menu point "desired balance" what do I have to adjust there?

My quasar is going well, I had learned Russian at school long time ago, but unfortunately I missed a lot of it.
In other forum contributions to the Quasar AVR / ARM one sees that many people have problems, I hope the pdf files are a help to them.
It is my first IB detector, before I built the Baracuda PI and I had to see that our area got too muchbombs so I decided I have to build a detector with metal discrimination.
My problem is that I do not understand the "desired balance" in the quasar menu. It shows the remaining balance of the coil in the point "Balance" and in the point "desired balance" I can adjust something, should I adjust there what I would like for a balance?
