If I wanted to build my own PI are there any good circuit board designs around to get me started?

  • If I wanted to build my own PI are there any good circuit board designs around to get me started?

I'm thinking about building a PI for fun if I can find a circuit board design to get me started. The snow will be coming soon and I need something to keep me busy this winter.

Carl has a good one. He is working on a new PCB for it using surface mount components which will allow you to make it a lot smaller. I am planning on building that one myself when the boards become available.

      Charles
If you will look for the Metal detector projects pages (off the home page), you should find Carl's PI1 plans.

Do you have people a experiences with Carl's Hammerhead? I don't see in the forum a practices from successful builders (sensitivity, stability...).

My PI Detector has had quite favourable results and feedback from those who have built it.
Take a look in the Projects area if your interested. Also pictures and a few feedback notes on units that have been built

              to Gary

              hi Gary,

I see some similarity of your project with Twin Loop Treasure Seeker. was that of a starting impulse point or I am not right?

              TIA

                Re: to Gary

Sorry for the Delayed reply, but I seldom get in here. An E-mail to me would have recieved a quick reply.

No it wasn't a starting point, but I will admit I have seen it along with many other designs. I agree there are simularities.

I had considered the 4000 series but I find 555's are much easier to calculate values for various timing parameters and lend themselves to easy switching if desired.

Digital wasn't an option for me, I don't like it.

Using 555 only allows for minor changes in values to achieve a given frequency or time delay. The rest of the circuit is quite basic and also simular to many other designs out there.

thanks Garry for the reply. will your project work with very big coil, 1 m X 1 m square for example?
was this variant tested by you or someone?

                  yours

                    Re: to Gary

Hi, Yes one guy I know of in Texas made a 4 ft square coil and said he had pretty good results. Sorry but I no longer have the details of it, that was quite awhile ago.

                    Take care.....Gary
