  • WHY YOUR PROJECTS WONT WORK!!

    Cheap Chinese components!

DO NOT buy from Chinese sources on eBay.

I have just spent 4 hours measuring capacitors i bought on ebay from China, 80% are wrongly marked!!!

As for FETS and transistors, most wont hit specs and IC's are miles out.

    Binned the LOT!

Never had problems from anything purchased from Tayda Electronics. The Caps are always within Tolerance abet close on the low side it would seem.

Never had problems with any parts bought from Tayda. They now carry some Panasonic caps as well.

I do tend to stay away from any ebay seller of electronics from China if they also sell goods that are not electronic--toys, household items, clothes, tools, cameras, jewelry and 1001 other different items. Feedback usually shows they arn't the best to deal with.

Lucky for me I also have a local electronics parts supplier

problem with some other firms based in the western world are extremely high order and transportation cost.
Look for example at utsource. It does not make sense when you order parts for 10 or 20 USD and you have to pay 20 USD S&H.

Better to test the goods received from China or Thailand(Banggood).

Main problem I encountered sofar is poor labeling of parts. This is a problem when you order a lot of cheap items

Damn, i have ordered resistors for my baracuda from ebay. 1200 pieces for 5 euro.

I hope they are all within the tolerances.

Just measure them before soldering. Thats why I prefer to spend more on buying from reputable shops - digikey, farnell, rs, mouser (mostly mouser).

i once bought a lot of 50 TL062's from a chinese seller on ebay,
they were for a self designed project i was on with at the time.

                  only needed about 8 ,
but hey ho, they were a good price, i'll stock up on them..............

many hours of frustration later when project no bloody worky,
i decided to test the darling little chips............
after all, my idea worked on the sim.

the "genuine" Ti TL062's output side failed at 0.5ma !!

not worth the ink that was used on the reprinted label on them !!

on closer inspection, the legs all ready had "socket" marks on them !!

and the label smeared when wiped with turps.........

1: I HAVE NEVER FELT SO SHAFTED !!

2: THOSE POOR LITTLE TL062's THAT HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG HAVE HAD THERE REPUTATION SLURRED BY THESE FAKE 8 LEGGED WORTHLESS CRITTERS.......

( sorry, i'm on my 2nd beer, it's new years eve in the uk)

i still have the bag of worthless 50 x pieces at good price yes........
they are in a cold, dark, cupboard, right at the back, i don't even look at them, there not worth it..........

                  so,
                  new years resolution,
i'm going to pull there little legs off one by one in the morning................

                  right,
                  nuther beer me thinks.

                  happy new years to all.

what to say... i got delta pulse board in repair and first that i found was LF357. it did not give... sic!... OUTPUT SIGNAL.
so this IC was only piece of plastic, no more.

Checking the sellers feedback would be a good tip off not to buy from them

I always check the feedback and never take anything if feedback is lower than 99%, but i bought 2 TLE49990 to replace the 5534 on my TDI and results was very bad. So much noise...
TLE... was a very simple OpAmp with other numbers..
But i still buy chinese components from ebay.

Been thinking about this problem with bad sellers on Ebay that sell fake parts, maybe we need a section on the forum where we can list bad sellers and why they are bad sellers and tell the bad sellers they are being listed on an international forum and they are being boycotted ?
                          Just as an example

                          Seller ABC123 , fake IC's.

And maybe also list GOOD sellers that sell good parts.

                            excellent idea 6666 !!

has geotech got the space to host the epic list ?? LOL

part of me is thinking it may be pointless as seller "fab-buy1234" would just change their name to "fab-buy12345"

                            well,
my lesson has been learnt a few times now,
from dodgy chips to dead transistors and caps that have been " incorrectly " marked

used to use TAYDA allot for smaller orders, no complaints in quality, but ON average postage is about a week.

to be fair i just order from RScomponents now,
ok, quite often i have to buy in multiples of 50, no harm in stocking up.
                            next day free delivery,
and bulk prices normally cheaper than ebay sellers.
and i know i'm getting genuine components.
(no, i don't work for RS, before someone asks...........LOL)

I constructed tgsl using ONLY salvaged components and I realized that using high quality components makes huge difference in performance. I never considered buying components from China. Only buy quality components from reputable suppliers.
