  • Parallel signal analizes - PI coil return

    Hi,
I wonder if there's any problem in conecting a scope (parallel to the PI coil) !?
I know that if generates a ~400V peak, so the questions is :
Will it affect a scope meter ?
They are usualy channel rated at 400V input.

Or the peak is so short that the scope will not be damaged ?

I'm working on a way to try to discriminate the return signal on PI detectors, but i'm afraid to burn one of the scope channels !

Is there a work around on this ?

    Thanks
    Paulo

Usually one has a scope probe that is a 10X or maybe even a 100x if working with high voltages.

I put my probe in 10X (flip a switch on the probe and my scope hasn't smoked yet Put the scale on 5volts and it will show 50volts per division.

        very simple way

is also secondary coil similar to a transformer.
simply do a one wind above PI coil or put it near. if your coil has 30 turns you will get 300V/30=10V on the one outside turn (take the diameter of wire as low as possible).

        yours.
