The jumpers installed corrected the problem. I have been having fun with the Hammerhead board which I purchase from WM6. I guess I am from the old school that say's my brain can be a better judge of a target than a pic chip. I have a VLF machine with a 8 bit processor in it, I just don't trust the machine. Thanks for asking Tim, Best to all Jim

Yes, that's the First Edition. The Second Edition had a "corrected" version of PI-5, but unfortunately [again] there was a different error. The link above should correct that problem.

The original prototype was somewhat different to the version printed in the book. It was modified to be consistent with PI-1 to PI-4, and supposed to have been built and tested as a working unit. Somewhere along the line, things went awry and the schematic ended up with some errors.

One day I will turn this into a proper [working] project for the forum ... one day.

I built the PI Detector from the 2012 edition of the Metal Detector book, I posted my finding of the errors or mistakes on the printed circuit board. The post lasted about 30 to 45 minutes an was gone. I did not use any foul or abusive language. I have no idea who or why it was removed. At this point in time it is a mood point. I still think that this a great board, an enjoy all the folks. Best to all Jim

                          Picture

I have posted a picture of the board, as I remember there were 2 capacitors, need to be installed, a trace on the IC was incorrect and the transistor pin layout was incorrect. Please can we move on to more interesting issues. This will be the last comment about the little detector. Best to all Jim

Which PI design are you referring to?
I assume it's either PI-1, 2, 3 or 4, as there was no PCB layout supplied for PI-5.

Also, please check the errata list for Edition 1 here -> http://www.geotech1.com/forums/content.php?143-updates
Note 10 states: Page 177, Figure 12.21 - PI-1 PCB Layout - the silkscreen is incorrect for Q3.
