As they say it is all still in preorder stage, so probably no live unit
    with users:

"Right now we are in development stage.
Please contact us if you are interested in this product and would like
    to make a pre-order: http://airmetaldetectors.com "

Basically XP Deus idea using phone as remote control unit.
Even coil design is Deus coil clone.

No sure how this will work in tight places:

    "Power On, using accelerometer sensor."

Switching to Power Off at no movement?

    And this:

Fresh water hunting (up to 2 meters)

Underwater communicating between detector units over WIFI?
    Really?

On a similar line the MAG-PI here-3 sample Pic controlled-bluetooth to your phone App. Hex is there too.

A serial to bluetooth converter is cheap and easy -- the HC05 is a typical interface I also used to easily debug detector values in the field.

The main problem is the phone app.
I use blueterm as a standard serial terminal app, which works fine as long as your only goal is debugging and you know what the numbers are that show up on the terminal.
However, if you want to show a real fancy interface on the phone, you need to write your own android app.
For me, this treshold is just a little too high.

The air metal detector looks excellent from mechanical and ergonomic point of view !
Finally some common sense: use your smartphone instead of an expensive proprietary XP interface. You carry it with you in the field anyway and all you need is a waterproof cover for it.
Wireless module is BLE, HM10 http://fab.cba.mit.edu/classes/863.1...bluetooth.html
Low energy -- also low latency ?

Search Magpi (not mag-pi) here sorry. By moodz. Uses HC06 and he has written his own App.

On the downside you depend on two different sets of batteries. Your fun will lasts as long as the battery with the smallest capacity. After all there's not that much info to visualize, a beeper is usually enough, certainly an app on a high resolution power-drawing OLED scree is overkill. I'd go for a cheap LCD any day and reserve my phone for its true purpose in the field, which is doing emergency calls.

Very true Teleno. My phone needs to be plugged into the charger constantly if I am to get directions on google maps. An external power bank? A solar charger such as I use on my 'tectas already? It's a pity phone manufacturers and consumers see aesthetics as the over-riding factor in their design. Durability, longevity and consequently reliability go out the window in this dirty, wasteful, poisoned world where corporate consumerism sees everyone is trying to keep up with the Jones's.
Working out bush my priority for phone choice was a jack for an external antenna. Try and find any modern phone or usb modem with this now.
Perhaps we need an Android phone that takes 3x18650's ?
