By the way, I have no intention of hacking the PIC to get at the hex code. I only hoped to be able to download the hex file in order to save it, since trying to re-program the PIC would result in the loss of the original program. However, I would have been surprised if the code was not protected (which it is). At least I can now flash the 16LF1825 using the PICkit2 programmer if I so desire.

We appreciate you here KT. Alexeys Impulse2 is very good price, so not much for people to complain about not having hex-just buy it and experiment what you can get out of it...Like you I enjoy nutting out and simplifying designs. I just can't seem to get to all my aspirations. Seems to be plenty of other micros here these days for experimenting.

Yes, you are spot on. It was only so you could restore the original hex to the chip if you needed to. Nothing unethical about that.

          Absolutely spot on.

i did not give permission... he want to release 'left'. ok, but after my (MY) batch be sold i did want to share the gerber files to people.
but he have covered those people who want buy bara... (them, you know not 1000s wishers) so if my batch is yet not released i can not share gerber files.
              this good lesson for me.

any improvements or mod for impulse 2 seems it could have its output pulse boosted fairly easily?

I would suggest fiddling with the delay, width, and filter settings already available, and some coil configurations/inductances first, before hacking, mangling and snotting it.
By the way the instructions are in my first post, if you failed to download them on purchase. When all else fails, read the instructions.

oh yes i have had it for a couple of weeks and downloaded everything and i like it its good, its just that it seems it could maybe go deeper with a simple mod to the tx circuit and power supply to raise the kick voltage but as you say playing with the settings might help also its just that it says things like time in the region of 100-500, but the setting only goes to 130 so it a little hard to grock (i have tweaked all the settings) and pulse width is also somewhat finicky mine needs to be at 11 for the coil and settings only go to 10 also any thing above 13 gets you no response from the coil at all. i like it so much i have bought several................it will be an excellent test bed.

Very interesting. When I messaged the supplier regarding time settings 100-500 he indicated the settings went from 1-999. For this reason I believed the increments were closer. Perhaps optimising the coil can improve the usable settings range..? Good luck with it qute1.

This is toy detector. It can't detect anything over 5 inches deep. Please tell me what is detection depth you tested.

Don't share anything here. Some people are bad people.

Max detection was just under 8" with some quite large pure silver (.999) 2 ounces approx and it was in air and had to be moving fast for that distance not tried in earth yet. Also haven't tried any of the filters yet may improve things i will try more tests at the weekend but suspect a "sharper" mosfet (need to run a batch and pick the best) may help and a properly configured coil as just grabbed what i had to hand.

What size coil? Without knowing the diameter it is hard to know if that is bad or good....With my Newhobby pic detector I found a 6" flat basket weave .5mm, @260uH quite sensitive to small gold (air test 1.7g flour gold@ 4 inches), and that has no adjustments beside reset and sens.
