I have never seen a BFO project with disc, and the only "BFO" I know of with any disc ability is the old Garrett Master Hunter BFO. I have long suspected it was not a BFO, but rather an off-resonance design. If you are looking for something interesting to play with, I'd suggest off-resonance over BFO.Comment

I operated a TreasureTronics BFO, with an good/bad meter, was BFO, worked good for separating ferrous from non-ferrous, was called SST Treasure Pro, but it had drift problems like crazy. They started around 1964 or so. I found a lot of vintage coins in the Cripple Creek Mining District in Colorado. And after that, I used a Garrett Master Hunter BFO, with the large package of coils, no discrimination with it, but it was okay as it did not drift in frequency. The best unit was when I picked up a Compass Yuikon 77b, then going to 76b body mount, fantastic machine! Cannot bad mouth it at all....

Hello guys;-) Thanks a lot for your posts...very informative. Yes i want to play with bfo and want to do a few tests with it. Off-resonance is absolutely new to me.....but i will read and inform me about this method;-) Its nice to have people in this forum who really have used this old machines out in the field in the past.....you are the real metal detecting pioneers;-). I love vintage electronic machines....not only metal detectors;-)
