Even if you saw a face, would you know if it's mine?

There are also people who are trained in other areas.
Working with such a milling machine was once my job

As bernte_one already said before, I would suggest you as well, to use an vacuum table and use your coil as an template. It is much easier to do, than to remove all epoxy.
Here in the forum you can find a very good publication, where all steps are well described, to get good results in vacuum forming.

The picture shows my first shape of an DD28 on the left and my actual shape on the right, after I 'd modified my wooden template. In use now for different versions for Fortuna/Fortune.

Why even bother , you can buy a nice Abs shell from a number of Geotech members or on ebay for as little as 15 Dollars, Cost vers time and trouble is not worth your efforts.
Donald made me two very nice coils at a fantastic price and I am sure he would sell you a shell.

              You are right.
Milling is not an optimal solution.
What plastic is such a coil housing, I made a small hole in the housing during the milling ....

Hot glue sticks well on ABS and HIPS and you can press it after to make it flat. I use it for holding coils in place before potting epoxy.

Why even bother, when you can buy entire detector?

Yes, for few pieces is better to buy coil shell, but building vacuum former is fun

I agree with you Hyena, Building a former sounds like a better , and a more enjoyable learning exercise of ones time, then trying to re-use a filled coil shell.
