I'm new to this forum but have been detecting for some thirty years, and know just enough about electronics to be dangerous.
But anyway-I have always thought that-for me-the holy grail of detecting would be a pulse machine with discrimination. That's because I'm a salt water beach hunter.
How about, as an addition, to the very excellent HH circuit- a sample and hold circuit.
This could be done by mortals smarter than myself with a PIC that had a built in ADC or a MOT HC11 or some other microcontroller.
THe outboard signal could go to an on board LCD, or a WI-FI link to a notebook PC or even a Palm.
What would be the point-you ask? I have very good ears-so this might be unnecessary to notice small differences of signal to give an indication of target.
On the otherhand-it would be a form of rudimentary signature analysis that could lead to some level of visual signal discrimination.
A WI-FI signal could be inputed to an EXcel form of spreadsheet for logging hits.
THe following is a link to an excellent data acquision system for _Palm OS-check it out -its
a PIC ADC that inputs to a PAlm which would probably be the easiest way to go.
