I use the 1u5 Because I got a Deal on ordering a 1000 lot of them.
    You can use 1u tantalum.
I like Tantalums, but even a 0.1 Polyester or Disc Cap will work.

I Buy Most of my Parts in 100, !000, Some even in 10,000 Lots.

However, Soon to Throw them All in the Garbage.

Hi chemelec - do you have specs on the coil in your schematic? Inductance, ferrite used, wire diameter, turns?
      Thanks

        1/4 X 1 1/2 Inch Ferrite Rod.
I Wound a 2 Layer Coil on it Using 30 AWG wire, with a measured Inductance of 1.2 mH.
(Not Sure of exact number of Turns, But Close Wound covering 1 Inch of the Rod.)

(Going to Cuba on Jan 17 for a Holiday, so may not reply more.)

Hiya Chemelec,,,,,I'm just wondering out of curiosity,,rather than throwing all those components in the garbage, would there be a deal you could do on them? If the price and P&P was affordable to me I could buy them from you? I'm looking for a lot of different components, IC's etc,,,to build a stock pile up for the future as I'm alaways building different circuits to better my learning of electronics. I understand you are about to go on holiday to Cuba so it's ok if you don't reply,,,,,Enjoy you're trip to Cuba. Marty

The Problem in getting rid of all these parts is to send them where?
I am in Canada and Shipping Parts to the USA and other countries is getting more Difficult these days.
Customs are getting PICKY on some things and Mailing Costs are More Expensive now.

Also Depends On What Parts your Interested in.
My Parts are All Analogue types.

Marty, If you Want to Talk, Send me your Phone Number, I have free long distance.

Hiya Chemelec,,,,,Thanks for your reply. I live in a small town in South Yorkshire, England,,,a place called Rotherham. It is mainly Analogue parts that I'm interested in. I have built a few Digital detectors I.E: Felezjoo, Pickini, etc,,but I'm more interested in detectors similar to Mirage, IDX, Minipulse etc,,,I prefer detectors with just knobs and not screens if you know what I mean. I'm interested in any Analogue IC's that are used in detectors,,,I do build other circuits - little guitar amps, small power supplies etc, but I'm wanting to make a stock pile of any parts and components involved just in building detectors as my main goal is to get as fluent as I can in the building side of this hobby. If you could sort out a list of everything that you're getting rid of we could maybe come to a deal on what you would like for them. As for P&P, I wouldn't mind the cost of it if I could get an ideal variety of components in one go. The only thing I hate about building detectors is that when I've built something that contains faults or doesn't work at all, you have to wait then, order more parts, more solder, more copper clad etc,,lol,,,all because you're TOO eager to achieve what you're trying to do. If you have time to make a list of what you're wanting to sell, or if you already have an inventory of the parts you're selling, you could PM me about it if you like and I could look through what you have and let you know what I'd be interested,,or if you were selling everything at a price I could afford I would buy them all from you. I've never messed anyone around so I can honestly say that I'm certain I wouldn't be wasting your time and would definitely buy some components from you. I'm still learning the craft of electronics at the moment so my knowledge of components, names of components, what they're for, what they do etc is limited,,,,I'm just wanting to collect what components I can, associated with Detectors, and build a stockpile so that I can keep building and not run out of components,,lol. Hope you can help and if you have time for a listI will definitely take some parts off your hands. Thanks. Marty

I have just posted a pin pointer circuit based on the FM2 but you need to program a PIC 12F629 but is very sensitive.

I have Well Over $100,000.00 in Parts inventory.
FAR TOO MANY Parts TO LIST and Shipping it all would be Really Expensive.
The UK is a FREE Phone Call for Me.
However I am on my Way for a holiday to Cuba on Jan 17 and off to another Holiday in Mexico, Just after Returning back from Cuba.
                  NEED SOME WARM WEATHER!

Hiya Chemelec,,,,Thanks for replying, I do appreciate and understand you saying it would be difficult to list everything you have etc,,,,but if you could let me know what IC'S/Transistors (Mainly) etc that you have for sale, or possibly make a bulk package of and give me a price we could maybe do a deal. I know you're just about off on your travels and there's no rush on my side, I'll be still interested in doing a deal in the future with you when you're back off your holidays and have had time to sort through your comonents etc,,,When I first asked you about if you was selling any components I just thought you'd like to make some profit back rather than throw everything in the garbage. I'll always be interested in buying from you so like I say, no rush, let me know later down the line,,,there's always a way round the P&P and sometimes I don't mind paying the extra if it's worth it. Have a great time in Cuba and Mexico,,,speak soon. Regards,,Marty

I have parts all over the place, Too many to list.

Thanks Chemelec,,,,Wow,,that's a lot of parts to contend with,,,But like I say, if you could find time after your holidays to sort out a variety of stuff you'd like to sell and give me a price that would be great,,,I'm in no rush and have a definite interest. Mainly IC's, Transistors, Mosfets and anything obscure that's to do with detector building. Thanks again. Marty

That was Just a Sample, I have many Other Parts Bins.

Many Parts can be used to make Metal Detectors.
First you Need to Decide What your Actually Building and is Most Suitable for What your Searching For?
No ONE Metal Detector is good for All Situations.

Thanks Chemelec,,,,,,I know what you mean,,I have a folder full of future projects,,I have etched the PCB's already for a later date for when I'm a bit more skilled,,Also I have to make a collection of parts for them,,,I think the most advanced detectors I've built so far are the Mirage and the Minipulse beach unit,,,They're my favourites so far,,they work great. I've built several VLF Detectors,,all work,,but I've been waiting for this Winter to come so I can spend it on trying to perfect the DD Coils and Concentrics,,I'm still studying and learning that part but at least I've got a full Winter to practise. I made some DD and Concentric coils for them during Autumn,,a set of DD and a Concentric each for the IDX, the TGSL and the IGSL,,all coils are in spec but I'm yet to learn this Hantek DSO5102P Oscope that I purchased last Spring. At least by the time this Spring comes I will have learnt a little more,,LOL. Regards, Marty

I prefer just PI Detectors. No Discrimination, just detects All metals.
Discrimination usually causes some loss in detection distance
Just because something is Not Gold, does Not mean it isn't Valuable.
And I Prefer a flat wound coil like these ones I make.

And I can also use a Pin Pointer like this on it.
