Hi Chemelec,,,,I used to only like VLF Detectors when I first got into the hobby,,,but that was mainly because I live inland and the nearest beach to me is about 2 hours away and I don't drive (No interest in cars so I never learnt,,lol.) I do enjoy P.I Detectors now as much as VLF's. I love the 'Mirage' Detector,,it's great cos' I can use it inland,,in fact I've found more with the Mirage than my T2,,,I've only used my T2 twice and it stays at home now,,lol. The other P.I I like is the Minipulse Rev-D and Rev-E,,,great at the coast but not mastered using it inland yet like the Mirage. I'm same as you, I'm not really bothered about discrimination either,,,I don't mind dgging everything,,like you say, there's more things in the earth that haven't been seen for a long time other than valuable coins, jewellry and gold. My favourite coils up to now, for the Minipulse and Mirage, are 3DSS Coils. I've mastered making them now and can , more often than not, wind a coil to a specific inductance and resistance first time and it barely takes me anytime to do it now. I started winding bundle wrapped coils for the Mirage, all to the recommended specs/techniques/litz wire/resistance as stated by Sven, and even though I always got to the recommended 300uh and 1.4 ohms resistance I found that my 3DSS Coils at 300uh and 1.4 ohms came out more sensitive,,,and I didn't have to shield those like the bundle wrapped coils. I got about 2" inch more depth as well,,,love that Mirage! (I built one for my partner too). I did try some Flat wound coils,,it was when I wanted a coil for my Surf PI 1.2,,,but I use 3DSS for that as well,,,sensitivity is great on it, but I hate the audio so I rarely use it. I like P.I's that make the 'Tick-Tick' sound,,,the Mirage and Minipulse sound great. I've still not figured out though why my Minipulse Rev-D sounds different to my Rev-E??? Must be something to do with the difference in components? I'll figure it out one day as I learn a bit more of this electronics game,,lol. I prefer using the Rev-D more than the Rev-E,,more for the audio difference cos' they're both equal on the depth and sensitivity. Anyway Chemelec,,,Have a good trip, be safe and most of all,,,enjoy yourself. Regards,,Marty

You would if you be living around here! I did one summer with the Minipulse plus and the Surf PI, in woodlands and parks! Sure I dig up a few coins and bling rings and such! but I also dug up a 5 gallon pail worth of rusted nails, and a large size Rubbermaid storage box of metal bots and such! Then I did the TGSL, I used all last season! went back to a lot of the place I had gone with the MMP, Where all the nail digging was driving me nuts the summer before, Came back with 6 silver coins, a silver bracelet and more coins then nail in fact, 4 pounds worth of copper pennies! IM VLF all the way from now on. lol

Hiya Tibuck,,,,I love VLF's also,,,,But I'm still practising and studying how to null and tune the coils,,,,I have them all ready made to spec etc, for the IDX/TGSL and IGSL. I've got the rest of Winter though to work this all out,,,and suss my DSO 5102P out too!,,lol. With you living in Canada, haven't you tried the Mirage out yet? Only Sven swears by it for Inland detecting,,,,I like it too. Thanks. Marty
