The best DIY detector is the one you finish and USE! if you are to start a project and just leave the board on the bench and don't make an enclosure coil stem..... and actually go out and use it! its worthless in my option. My suggestion is to plan ahead, Regardless of the kit you wish to take on, make sure you'll be able to find or make anything you will need to make it a usable detector. Example the surfPI is not the best detector around but its real easy to put together and make a coil and make a tube like enclosure for it, or store bough kitchen plastic box enclosure is a breeze, that's just one example. However, if having to pick threw the DIY kits I got from silverdog, which are a few of the main projects in Geotech, For PI's The Minipulse plus is a sure winner for me, as for VLF The tgsl has served me well and brought me a lot of cool finds with very ease of use, The IDX is more complicated as you will have to source out all the components and because of the board layout, it makes it more difficult to make a cheap and easy enclosure but it work great if you do!

I've done several of these detectors and I'm happy with their work.

It works well in a highly mineralized country, and with the selection of a capacitor in L2 an extra detector for golden nugets can be obtained.Attached Files
