    threshold rises when coil lowered towards the ground.

    Having fixed my 1265x. All the settings ended different.

    Went through the setting procedure and set the ground balance as per instructions. Slight rise as ferrite approaches coil. Its kind of subjective as it depends on the ferrite type, size and how close to the coil.

    On a couple of fields (one clay and one peat) the detector preforms poorly. Both of these there is a strong rise in threshold as the coil lowered to the ground.

    If the threshold drops as the searchcoil approaches the ground in static pinpoint mode, ground noise will give you fits in discrimination mode.

      Ferrite consists mainly of iron oxide, plus a small proportion of other metals.

      If you get the ferrite too close to the coil, then it starts to act like a metal target. The ferrite needs to be kept a few inches away from the coil when used for ground balancing.

      If your threshold changes when you bob the coil up and down, then your detector is not ground balanced correctly.

        At least I am on the right side of an incorrectly adjusted ground balance.

            I will try again with the ferrite away.


            I have a piece from an old LW radio antenna and a piece from a broken mains EMI bead. They give slightly different results but not much.

              I will try and find a fixed setting that works in my fields first. If in successful I will give this a try.

                I noticed some deep targets were a bit crackly, so turned the disc pot down a tiny amount.

                Readjusted the ground balance so it just starting to rise with the ferrite 2" away.

                Taken it for a test drive seem much nicer. Not many targets to go at. But dug a pre decimal half penny after removing the clod it was still in the bottom of the hole below pinpointer depth giving a strong signal. So approximately 10" with a some to spare. Same coin is approx. 13" in air.

                much smoother running and I was able to run at higher sensitivity.
