Thought someone here who is familiar with the vintage Nautilus circuitry might help me out a bit . I just bought the old gal and its still in great shape but I want to add a handle mounted mode change switch . The machine has a existing 2 position toggle switch mounted on the box to change between All Metal mode and Discriminate Mode . This switch has 6 poles and the momentary switch to be added is a 2 pole switch . I'm not sure where to solder in the new switch and the schematic is not available and the builder is deceased . I have asked the current business owner for help but haven't received a reply yet . Thanks for any help .

DB does revisited. http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showt...ilus-revisited
pics of you board if possible.

Best use is by tone comparison of all metal and discriminate sides . It is not 2 channel as were later models and stereo headphones are not needed , mono works fine . Hence the need for a handy button to switch back and forth when a target is detected .

I am familiar with the dmc2b circuit but your device may be a bit different(indeed, vastly different). Take some pics of board top and bottom and pics of switch and the connecting wires that go to the board(pcb).
You probably could use a momentary DPDT on-on switch wired directly to the original switch wires(but you would have to bypass this switch)

On second thought, terrible idea. Schematic is needed. There use to be a forum dedicated to Nautilus, but looks like it is no more.
Logic circuit to switch between modes, but this would be major mods
Point is you don't want phase shift wires or any wire in signal path for that matter running out of the shielded box, hence logic circuit to facilitate switching between modes of operation. Notice some detectors where switch is on handle(whites 5900/6000di), there is logic circuit to facilitate switching between various modes of operation. Sort of like a remote switch. Push to tune button is different thing I think. In some ancient devices these were located in the tip of handle. So maybe is not so simple as you think.

I did get to correspond via Facebook yesterday with the man who has taken over Nautilus detectors and he said he did have some reference material left by Jerry Tyndall he could look over and maybe help out . dbanner excuse my stupidity in describing the toggle switch but yes as you say the push button would simply act as a remote switch to go from all metal to discriminate , just as the toggle is doing now . And having seen more than one of these Silver Kings I know they were made for several years and some of them had both the toggle switch and the push button in the handle .

This should work. The switch is on-off-on spring loaded spdt trigger switch(just three wires go to the handle for mode switch). The power supply for circuit can be tapped off from main board power supply.
All that is required is to remove wires from old switch and connect to circuit as shown. A small pcb for circuit can be secured in the main box.

Relays would work, a 4PCO or probably more practical, two DPCO types. Then just a simple push-button to activate the relay coil(s). Then whichever mode the switch is set to, the push-button swaps it over to the other mode.
You would need to keep the extra wiring short and neat, fit them close to the DPCO switch on Veroboard/perfboard or a hand-cut PCB.Attached Files
