Mark's primary intent was to use the scope to view the Equinox waveform, to satisfy his own curiosity, and to compare with the example waveforms that the rest of us have seen it produce ( V1.5 firmware). As there seems little purpose him undertaking the difficult challenge of repairing the scope, just to repeat what we've done already, I recommend he passes it on to someone else. Sell it on the Classified ads? Donate it to a local Ham Radio Club? A local recycling centre? etc. It would be a shame to dispose of it.

LOL, I was manufactured in 1957. Ya going to dispose of me too ? That HP scope is one the the best of the best at the time it was made. It's still one of the best in the right hands. Learn how to use the darn thing and Make it work. Dang.

Single dot tells me that the deflection circuitry is at fault. 1974 means old electrolytic capacitors are culprit, along with some blown transistors. Your oscilloscope model service manual is available, so your oscilloscope is repairable. Start checking transistors, diodes etc. In the deflection circuitry, you will surely find faulty components.
Look at part of schematic responsible for driving the horizontal deflection. That's a good place to start looking.

Might also be a good idea to check Mr C out, he show how to do a lot of repairs on older high voltage test equipment. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU9...wrWb_3GxeteQPA
