  • Good old Garrett American apparatus

    Hi everyone,

I get a nice Garrett American TR detector as a gift. Ive tested it the last days a bit. I love this machine....really!!! Its such fun. I love old electronics in general, but with this detector I fall in love. My wife is hoping now that I dont start to collecting this units;-)

My question is......I have openend the Box today. The Pcb and parts looking really good after that time. Im asking you now.....for what purpose is this blue potentiometer on the bottom left corner?

Have done a few airtests with this blue potentiometer (see post above). It was set to the middle as ive opened it. When im turning the pot to the right...Im getting not all coins, especially Im eleminating copper coins. When Im turning to the left Im getting all coins (include copper). On mineralisation it had no noticable change in the signal. Tested it with different mineralized objects. It seems that this potentiometer is more a finetuning pot for the disc. If someone knows exactly what we have here, please let me know;-). Ive also checked the old manual....but there is no word about a inside pot.

The trimmer is most likely ground compensation in preamp stage of receiver, not discrimination trimmer.

Thanks very much for the pictures. Problem is the coil is difficult to make for such a design, probably not worth the effort. Thanks again for your generous offer. But I don't really need it, just the pics are fine.
