  • Settings Relationship

I am trying to work out the relationship between certain settings on a detector, for example the Whites MXT Gain control automatically mixes the correct amount of Pre-Amp gain and discrimination sensitivity as you turn the knob.
However for detectors such as the Whites XLT, DFX & V3 these two settings are separate, is there a general rule of thumb for setting these, for example higher levels of Pre-Amp require more subtle Discimination Sens??

Also settings like recovery delay, filter settings, masking and SAT, they all affect sweep speed and recovery to some extent but when theses settings are available separate what is the relationship between them and how does one balance the other?

Some modern detectors automatically set one setting back if it is out of kilter with another, the Whites above don't do this so again is there a general rule of thumb for these?

    Thanks in advance

Mr. Danny ... you have asked a very comprehensive question about setting up the Vhites Spectra V3:
The size of the pre-amp Rx Gain will also roll off the terrain mineralization:
    low mineralization rxgain 10-15.
medium to strong mineralization rxgain 5-9.
Very strong mineralization rxg 1-5 ..
    recovery delay - low-speed: separation ..
    high-help: deep ..

    Ground filters: low 5hz, 7.5hz-slow-but deep ..
    high 10hz, 12- fast separation-but
    shallower-less deep ..

Ground filters: 5- 7.5-10-12.5 hz band, 12.High- EMI resistant

These settings must also be applied to the size of the coil used.

relation between RX gain and DS sensitivity ... and if you use low and middle rxgain, use DS sensitivity on higher 88-93 .. values to keep a good reach.

Today we have tested approximately 7-8 detectors- of which there were 2 detectors - Whites Spectra Vision and Whites Spectra V3 .. on 12 "and 13" coils on buried 1WW Austrian-Hungarian buckles on depths 40-45-50-55-60 -65cm we used rx gain on 12 and DS 85-92 .., 5HZ band filter, and recovery delay 70 .. teren was low mineralization.

Here's my check airtest that I did a few years ago, for 12X10 Sef coil, there's a relationship between RX Gain and DS sensitivity.

Thanks, I have dug out an old copy of the V3i advanced guide and there is a lot of info in there, simply thinking of the sensitivity as a threshold has explained a lot.
      A very well written document,
