  • factor to influence the performance of metal detector

After doing the metal detector project, I have some questions about it. First, is the bigger size coil achieve better detection range and higher sensitivity? What is the influence of the inductance, will the distance longer if the inductance bigger? What is the influence of the metal material, size, and shape to the metal detection? I know the questions are simple but could someone help me to solve it?

None of your questions have simple one line answers. Some short answers which out considering all inter actions.
Again- READ the threads in this forum as all these have been asked and discussed.
1- bigger coil. Increases distance to LARGER object but becomes insensitive to smaller objects.
2- Increasing inductance for same size coil is done by increasing the #turns, as you should know from coil inductance equation. This increases the magnetic field and distance BUT takes longer to decay (L/R) and has higher 'kick back' Voltage requiring long pre-amp recovery time. Can also increase the susceptibility to interference.
3- Read ALL the threads by Green, etc on measuring TC of targets. They are still after a year trying to determine this.

    Bottom line of performance:
It is multiple trade-offs of many factors typical of most engineering projects.
