  • Bulgarian kits?

Anybody familiar with these Bulgarian IB detector kits: Fantom1 SR 18 and Dark Star?

I'm thinking they are descended from Russian open source projects maybe...but no idea, really.

that Daek Star looks like what i see online as Fortuna M and also looks liek the Pirate Black Pearl.

The Fantom 1 looks promising as a seemingly-analog beep and dig unit from the picture.

They also have a few PI kits.

    Any insight appreciated!

Fantom and Dark Star - cool names! *laugh*

I don't know about this but I have the Blisstool from BG since
almost 10 years and yesterday I charged its LiPo batteries.
If people from Bulgaria don't have 500 Euro / 1000 Leva but
can hold a soldering iron from the correct side *laugh*,
such kits are a fantastic opportunity for treasure-hunting.

But such kits should contain an already complete coil
or at least all the needed parts to built a good coil,
because this is one of the most important parts.

Yes, coils that are ready to go with the kit will undoubtedly boost the sales of such kits. I'm sure that bulk coils of cheap price can be ordered from China. They can be labeled with Fantom logo
Or set up small coil factory in garage like Steve Jobs did with first Apple factory.

Cheapest coil would be a few copperlines drawn directly on PCB board - perhaps diameter 20cm.
Or the kit is compatible with some already available relative priceworthy MARS or Detech coils.
And China of course always is the solution! We need a container-load MD coil parts! *laugh*

These kits do come with 28cm coils. I think the seller already does have warehouse of Chinese coil parts. In any case, the price seems OK for the package.

I asked seller if the "Fantom 1" can take any coils from other .bg 8kc detectors.

I tried to read many threads about these DIY classic of the East but the stories are difficult for a tourist like me. More impossible when Google translate from Cyrillic is required.

Creative name is OK with me but I would be looking for old tested design.

OK, here are the direct links which are better:

            http://crazy-tech.net/index.php?rout...&product_id=91

And the complete Dark Star detector costs 113 Euros more than the Kit:
            http://crazy-tech.net/index.php?rout...&product_id=93

            > Tech details: 2.Adding up to 3 different coils.

Depends on what you wanna search - big and deep or tiny and shallow.
IB already is pretty OK for that price.
Often such BG design is similar to old Fisher MDs but great improved.

            > now thats funny *laugh*
            Tech details: 13.Power supply- 2x 18650 Li-On battery.
            .... batteries not include.

A tourist? Try it out, what do you have much to lose?!

But same as with China MDs, you shouldn't be too picky and being
able to improve, stabilize and repair etc. smaller issues by yourself.

for nearly same price you can get a fisher / teknetics clone
no need to buy a diy kit, if you have to buy a stem too

Well this is true, but in the past week I bought a Classic ID for $100 and a Pirate Black Pearl for a low price. Black Pearl looks like a Fortune M aka DARK STAR aka ??? One can get a very decent machine in this market for $179 if you don't have to own the latest forum craze.

For me the idea of the crazytech kits not to save money but to find some interesting analog device to play with. I don't need any detector...currently own 5900SL , 6000SL, DMC-IIb, GMT 1650, Cobra II, XLT, Eagle Spectrum, and some other old instruments, a few old Tek Marks, etc.

I should be selling not buying!

I was hoping that this Fantom 1 would give me a look at the world of Eastern European experimenter/DIY designs. I figure that behind the faceplate is a PCB that would be familiar to members of this group. But WHO KNOWS what it is?

I have been in the audio electronics business for 35 years, analog and vacuum tubes. NEW ideas are very rare in analog but people are always cooking up nice arrangements of well-known circuits and approaches. Classic Fisher and Tesoro are good places to start, good places to be. I'd like to check an updated Bulgarian version. just to know.

Received this Pirate unit today...Ho Ho Ho, matey!

In that case I would look for some Russian Military MDs from the 1980s. *laugh*
I'm sure they are still working - even at -50 degree celsius - indestructable.

Same as with building your own house, selfmade MDs or at least from Kits assembled devices
can give you a better feeling or even makes you proud about your own success.
I also could sell some MDs I have but nevertheless I will buy more just for fun,
out of technical interests, experimenting, moding and: Achiving improvement!

But if you wanna have really something good and professional you can buy the
Blisstool LTC 64 v.5 - with 35cm coil! - it has been improved since 10 years!

Heres the manual link because I've downloaded it a week ago myself:
                        http://blisstool.com/data/userguides...de-English.pdf

If you like the analog "crack, snap and pop" and many knobs for fine-adjustment.
If I wouldn't have already some older model Blisstool and all the great other MDs
I would buy it directly by myself, especially when I would have a special offer!
Not to forget the Nexus with its huge coils, also a fantastic invention of Bulgaria.

Looks like a flexible machine. Possibly multi frequency. A French distributor lists a similar unit as scanning 2-22khz in 0.023 seconds. It will take some time to learn how this works in real conditions.

I used to publish a DIY tube audio magazine so I know the joys and pain of building myself. As I get older and wiser, I don't mind occasionally buying manufactured items also! Plus I get more lazy every day.

In the audio world, smart DIY guys and small manufacturers with DIY background drive innovation and development. Far ahead of the big guys.

Analog is surely not dead yet! I am interested to learn what this recent collection of Bulgarian models does differently from my pile of old American classics.

Can you take a pic of the Kit parts - with or without LiPo battery - but anyway thanks for the gif.

Now you can hunt at the BLACK sea for BLACK pearls - made out of silver or whatever, perhaps cannonballs.
Or the black pearls are the Carribean girls of the Pirates?! Who knows. *laugh*

                            Scanning?!
You mean the detector creates 2-22khz in 0.023 seconds and repeats this all the time?!
Could be a nice invention but I doubt the effect will be significant with such a small coil.

With enough power someone can also reach a very good depth with 100kHz.
And with too low power and small coil even 100 Hz would be useless.

As far as I can tell, THE BLACK PEARL is actually same as Fortune M with added Pirate imagery. Not scanning frequencies but can select frequency for different coils.

Trying to study BARS-SIMF blog with google translate to understand Fortuna platform better.

This French GOLD SKULL SG7-22 special version did mention freq scanning

The Pirate company does not say much about THE BLACK PEARL.

The French guy does not sell THE GOLD SKULL SG7-22 any more. The videos were from 2017.
